I've been a long-time fan of the collection of watches at
Tokyo Flash. Not for anything more than the sheer creativity and interest of the products. I never thought it could be so difficult to tell time, but these designers sure try!
These watches are the epitomé of Japanese design. Metal, colored plastic, flashing lights...not that much different from the view of downtown Tokyo.
So, what's the point? Why make something so UNfunctional? The more you think about it, couldn't the same be said for some of the other technology of our day? The iPod? It's built on commonsense, but at first glance, the limited navigational tools may be confusing until you begin to use it and make it your own. I think the same can be said for these watches. Once you begin to use it on a daily basis, it becomes natural.
Yes, they're flashy and creative and will definitely start a conversation on your Tube ride home. But,the timelessness (yea, a little pun) of a nylon-strapped Timex Military Watch (and it's ability to go with anything) would be my choice any day. (eye candy below)
